Hantavirus continues to be a main topic globally, and one travel blogger who was aboard the MV Hondius says things didn't really begin going downhill until just days before disembarking. Three passengers on the Dutch-flagged cruise ship died after contracting the Andes strain of Hantavirus, and several others were infected. Global health officials say the Andes strain, the only known form of Hantavirus capable of person-to-person transmission, is not expected to trigger a pandemic.
A small number of Americans who disembarked have either tested positive or are being monitored in the United States. Rosmarin, who did not contract the virus, said he hopes to get some fresh air during quarantine. Most of the day, we're just spending in the room with nothing for us to do.
However, the virus has an estimated mortality rate of up to 40%. Get 24/7 fact-based news coverage with the NewsNation app or add NewsNation as a preferred source on Google! Other than that, it's me just trying to keep myself busy, eating three meals a day, and family and friends have sent puzzles.
