Five former passengers from the M/V Hondius cruise ship have left the National Quarantine Unit in Omaha. UNMC said Tuesday the passengers returned to their home states, where they will continue to self-monitor for 21 days under the direction of their local and state public health departments. The last update on May 22 from state and federal officials was that they're waiting for CDC guidance on when the passengers could return home.
Symptoms can take up to 42 days to appear, and UNMC said all 18 former passengers were encouraged to complete the full monitoring period at the NQU. The Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) and each passenger's local and state health department oversaw the travel plans, UNMC said. Officials say the CDC has been in talks with impacted states on requirements for the passengers as they continue to self-monitor at home.
Officials say the passengers are being evaluated on an individual basis for release. Download the First Alert 6 streaming app to your TV or find us in your favorite streaming platform. Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen sent in his reaction to the news Tuesday morning.
