Officials are set to provide an update Friday on cruise ship passengers quarantined in Omaha following a Hantavirus outbreak. The news conference comes after two of the passengers from the cruise ship were ordered by the CDC to stay at the National Quarantine Unit in Omaha. Officials were also asked about the possibility of Ebola patients coming to quarantine in Omaha once the passengers leave.
The team involved in operations at the National Quarantine Unit discussed how the past 11 days of quarantine have gone and answered questions. When asked Friday about the passengers' request to leave quarantine, officials confirmed that the CDC gave orders for them to stay. The other 16 passengers in Omaha were requested to stay at UNMC-Nebraska Medicine through the end of the month.
They arrived at Eppley Airfield in Omaha on May 11 before being taken into quarantine. They originally came from the MV Hondis cruise ship that was in Spain. Michael Wadman, MD, medical director of the National Quarantine Unit, spoke about the end of the quarantine.
