A medical convoy departed Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Monday and went to Emory University Hospital. Officials in Nebraska, speaking at a press conference on the situation in that state, said two people were flown to Atlanta. The officials in Nebraska were asked several times by reporters why two people were separately transported to Atlanta, which they indicated was a decision made for capacity reasons. Those officials said the patients were "under medical evaluation." The Georgia Department of Public Health also said Monday two Georgia residents who had already come back from the cruise and were being monitored were still asymptomatic. The 11Alive SkyTracker was able to observe people in medical protective gear coming off and on the plane.
At 10 a.m., it appeared a medical convoy began to depart the airport. The two people were then wheeled from the ambulances into the facility wearing full protective gear. Emory's Serious Communicable Diseases Unit treated Ebola patients during an outbreak of that infectious disease in 2014. The airliner reportedly transported several Americans to Nebraska early Monday morning from the virus-hit MV Hondius after it ported in the Canary Islands. They were described as a couple, one of them symptomatic.
